A leveling kit is the most common first modification for an F-150. It raises the front of the truck so it sits level with the rear and makes room for slightly larger tires. Here is what it does and what to check before you buy one.
What a leveling kit does
Most F-150s leave the factory sitting slightly lower in front than in back. A leveling kit raises the front to remove that nose-down stance. The result is a level look, a little more tire room and, on most kits, very little change to the way the truck rides.
What it does not do
- It does not raise the rear, so it will not give the tall look of a full lift
- It does not make room for the biggest tires. Taller tires need a lift kit
- It does not remove the need for an alignment
What to check before you buy
- Your truck's year, cab and trim, because kits are built for specific ranges
- The tire size you want to run and whether the wheel offset will let it clear
- The 6x135 bolt pattern used on F-150s, if you are buying new wheels
- Whether the install includes an alignment
